LETTER SAMPLES

Dear Senator Lankford,

My name is [name] and I am a [constituent/other relationship] from [city/town/etc.]. I am reaching out today to thank you for your prior support for refugee resettlement and to ask you to protect Oklahoma’s legacy of success in welcoming refugees.

Reception and Placement programs help refugees to find stable employment, access English-learner resources, and find safe housing. Individuals utilizing R&P services contribute positively to the Oklahoma community and to our economy. In 2024, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services found that resettled refugees generated a net fiscal benefit of $123.8 billion from 2005 to 2019 (Ghertner, Macartney, and Dost, 2024). Data shows that the contributions of resettled individuals far outweigh governmental expenditure on the services which help them settle into their new communities.

Refugees are human beings deserving of safety and who also contribute positively to the Oklahoma community. Please uphold Oklahoma’s legacy of successful resettlement by advocating to restart the Reception and Placement program.

Thank you.
