The Orphan Crisis
"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this; to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." James 1:27
We at The Spero Project feel compelled to care because Scripture guides us to do so. And because it's evident by the data that orphans have been too long neglected. What we are facing now is a crisis, and we must respond.
According to
Show Hope:
- 143 Million orphans live without mothers and fathers in the world
- Every 18 seconds a child becomes an orphan
- Orphans are more vulnerable to violence, exploitation, trafficking, and other abuses
In The United States:
- There are 120,000 Foster children waiting to be adopted
- There are 9,539 Foster Children in Oklahoma*
- There are 1,349 Foster Homes in Oklahoma (not including kinship or therapeutic homes)*
