Key Activities of Spero:Voice

Spero:Voice operates primarily through a generous partnership with the owner/management of an apartment complex where a majority of the International Refugees in OKC live. They have offered us use of an onsite Learning Center where we can daily serve the needs of clients, including offering:

ACTS
Spero:Voice believe two things must go hand in hand:
Acting
Compassionately and
Teaching
Sustainability. All of our
ACTion
S are offered by volunteers who love and care for our clients, but are prepared to teach them to learn how to manage all of these things on their own as they move towards long term sustainability. Some of our
ACTion
S include:
- Transportation to and from work
- Transportation to medical care
- Appointment-setting assistance
- Job application completion assistance
- Much more!
Assistance
Through generous donations, The Spero Project provides food, clothing, and emergency cash assistance. Emergency cash assistance is designated for medical emergencies or acute needs for rent in certain situations when clients have offered due diligence in meeting their own need.
Crafting Cooperative
A small group of refugee women from Burma meet two to three times a week to participate in our crafting cooperative. We make various crafts and projects that use the talents of these refugee women to provide them additional income, English practice, and positive interaction outside the home. This has been a wonderful opportunity for teaching, learning, and relationships! If you would like to purchase the hand-made items from this program, visit ShopGood or Blue 7, businesses that have partnered with us to celebrate these women. Proceeds benefit the women directly and go to enable Spero:Voice programs to continue. To donate funds or your creative skills to this project, please contact Heather Duncan at heatherduncan04@gmail.com.
Youth Empowerment Program
Partnering leaders in the community with youth from the refugee population, Spero:Voice seeks to see the full potential of each youth realized. By focusing on leadership training, community service, spiritual growth, we believe that students who have been given a second chance at life will make the most of that life!
Summer Program
To ensure students are ready for the upcoming school year, Spero:Voice offers an educational and recreational Summer Program twice weekly through the summer break. Packed with games to promote math and English skills, students are sure to enter their new classroom with confidence!
Social Events
Spero:Voice is committed to offering authentic and meaningful relationships with our clients, knowing these are what is truly needed to thrive in our community. One way we do this is through social events for major holidays, special occasions, celebrations, and-often-just for fun! Through social events, we've seen long-lasting relationships develop between Spero:Voice volunteers and individuals and families in the refugee community.
